Duchess of Edinburgh’s Farm Visit: Drawing a Family Tree Ends Abruptly at Prince William’s Name.

Date:

The Duchess of Edinburgh had an awkward moment today while visiting Brockhill Performing Arts College in Hythe, Kent, which has its own farm.

Sophie, 58, was on hand to present the facility with the LEAF Education Demonstration School Gold Award, and was spotted talking to staff and students, helping to plant a tree and getting close to some of the animals in the enclosure .

During her visit, Sophie also managed to give the students a lesson on family trees, showing how the royal line of succession works.

Using a whiteboard, the monarch drew little faces, one wearing a crown to signify King Charles III, then Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and her own husband, whom she named Ed.

However, when it came to adding King Charles’ children, she dropped out after drawing William – leaving Prince Harry conspicuously absent. It should be noted, however, that none of the other royal children were included either – only William, as heir apparent.

Sophie showed off her artistic skills with a detailed drawing of the line of succession in the royal family and who was born when

Thankfully, all the faces in Sophie's drawing were smiling, though it seems she forgot to add one of King Charles' sons.

The mother-of-two looked stylish for the educational appointment, dressed in an off-white, red and navy check blazer by ME+EM, smart black slacks and dove gray suede Mary-Janes with high heels, which may not have been the wisest choice for the muddy terrain.

It’s not the first time Sophie has worn the £295 ME+EM jacket. She first showed it off last September when she and Prince Edward visited Preston Market Hall in Birmingham.

The Autumn Puppytooth Boyfriend blazer is described as a ‘fresh seasonal pattern that incorporates soft mid-weight tailoring’ and also comes with a pair of matching trousers currently on sale online for just £74.

Thanks to the subtle mix of colours, the single-breasted piece cleverly creates the illusion of being pink from a distance, perfect for pairing with the gray shoes.

Sophie added a simple white shirt to complete her look, which she left unbuttoned at the neck.

The newly appointed Duchess of Edinburgh wore her highlighted locks in a soft half-up/half-down style that brought out her beautiful features.

Sophie, who is a patron of more than 70 charities and organizations, added a touch of sparkle to the ensemble with chunky silver stud earrings, a thin silver chain and her wedding and engagement rings.

There to present the site with a gold award from LEAF Education, a charity that aims to engage, inspire and motivate young people through workplace learning.

Their aim is to provide future generations with a balanced and informed understanding of food production, agriculture and the environment.

Sophie is a strong advocate for young people and recognizes the importance of creating opportunities to enable them to reach their full potential.

At one point during the engagement, Sophie helped out students by getting her hands dirty and planting a tree — all while wearing her suede gray high heels.

The Royal also met some of the animals living on the farm and shared a tender moment with a young calf being cared for by one of the students.

Later, Sophie watched as some of the younger students learned how to pull sheep’s wool through a machine to make yarn.

After the visit, the Duchess and her staff took off via a waiting helicopter that had landed on the grass to take her away.
