Then there’s the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which is more standard but offers remarkable battery life compared to standard Joy-Con controllers. .

DualSense Edge: price and release date
Thanks to a recent ‘Features Trailer (opens in a new tab)‘ and recent PlayStation Blog post, we now have a release date and pricing information for the DualSense Edge. According to Sony, it will retail for $199.99 USD / €239.99 / £209.99, and will release globally on January 26, 2023 and a month before PSVR 2. Unfortunately, no exact date was provided. australian price.
It puts the DualSense Edge above Microsoft’s Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 wireless controller, which retails for $179.99 / £159.99 / AU$249.95. With Sony recently raising the price of the PS5, we’re not surprised accessories have followed suit. The DualSense is $69.99 / £59.99 / AU$109.95, while the Xbox Wireless Controller is slightly cheaper at $59.99 / £54.99 / AU$74.99.
In the UK, US and Europe, pre-orders for the DualSense Edge and the replaceable stick module are exclusive to the playstation direct (opens in a new tab) Store. However, this will later be offered to “other participating retailers” on February 23, although the companies were not detailed.
DualSense edge: design
The DualSense Edge’s silhouette is virtually identical to the standard controller. But that’s not a bad thing. The DualSense is already a comfortable, elegantly designed pad that didn’t need much refinement in the first place.
Their aesthetic differences are more evident. The central touchpad is a clean matte black, adorned with PlayStation’s square, circle, cross and triangle iconography. The d-pad and face buttons have also been changed to black, from the original white. What we have is a striking contrast to the standard white DualSense controller.
The bottom of the controller, which houses the microphone, PS button, and analog sticks, is now a glossier black. The sticks themselves, the triggers, as well as the back of the controller also appear to have a sturdier, more textured grip.
DualSense Edge: battery life
By far the biggest drawback to the DualSense is poor battery life. Often clocking in at 4-10 hours on a single charge, it falls well short of the pads of competing systems. Unfortunately, even with Sony’s recent reveal, we still don’t have any concrete information on the DualSense Edge’s battery life.
Still, it’s something Sony should be interested in improving over the base pad, even if it’s only a marginal improvement of a few hours. By comparison, the Xbox Elite Series 2 has a battery life of around 35-40 hours on a single charge. We don’t think Edge will deliver on this, considering all the features the Xbox pad has and lacks. But we’d like to see an improved battery life of at least around 15 to 20 hours.
DualSense Edge: Features
The DualSense Edge may look cool, but its value as a professional standard pad will be judged by its features. For the most part, it seems like Sony is going all out in this regard.
As expected, Edge will be highly modular. The sticks, stick tops, and back paddles can all be interchanged and adjusted to your personal preference. The controller’s layout and sensitivity are also fully customizable. Players will not only be able to fully customize their button layout, but will also be able to adjust stick dead zones, as well as travel distance and trigger sensitivity.
All of this can be done, on the fly, from the controller itself. A dedicated Fn (function) button will open a separate user interface allowing gamers to customize their controller settings at any time. Plus, you’ll also be able to save profiles for when you need them most. Switching from Demon’s Souls to Gran Turismo 7? Profile switching will ensure that your control settings are ready no matter what game you’re playing.
You can expect all the best DualSense features to return. Haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and motion controls are all present and taken into account when it comes to Edge. Lastly, everything comes packed in an included carry case, and you can charge the controller via a USB connection while it’s stored inside.
