Social welfare and development Sec. Rex Gatchalian (Bibo Nueva España / Senate PRIB)
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development will push for the digitalization of aid distribution, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said Wednesday.
This move follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s call. to government agencies to adapt to trends.
“If you already have GCash, PayMaya can start by noon, but you may get a manual payout, which could be a madidismaya,” Gatchalian said in the public briefing in Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.
(If you already have GCash and PayMaya, and we all use that, but when you see agencies like ours paying out manually, you feel dismayed.)
Gatchalian added that digitalization is pointless unless processes are streamlined.
“Walang knows that digitalization can help you streamline your muna ‘yung mga proseso. If you want the requirements to be Hindi paulit-ulit, you can check out the requirements of Hindi napakarami, Hindi ‘yung tipong maga upload can be a long requirement and a requirement is to upload,’ Gatchalian said.
(Digitalization is useless unless the process is streamlined. You need to ensure that the requirements are not repetitive and that the steps are not too many to handle.)
The department is currently working to simplify the forms, reducing the number of steps and requirements, Gatchalian said. (Harold Hernandez, INQUIRER.net intern)
