MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will provide cash assistance to the family of the Grade 5 student in Antipolo City who suffered a fatal brain injury after a teacher allegedly hit him and pulled his hair .
DSWD spokesperson Rommel Lopez said Tuesday that the 14-year-old student’s family will receive a “minimum” of P10,000 in financial assistance for medical bills and funeral assistance.
“We will work closely with the authorities and relevant agencies to ensure the well-being of the relatives,” Lopez said in a statement.
On September 20, the unidentified teacher allegedly pulled the male student’s collar and hair and then punched him, the victim’s mother said.

Following this, the student complained of dizziness, headache and vomiting, prompting them to rush him to the hospital on September 26.
The student fell into a coma and eventually died on October 2, with the doctor also discovering internal bleeding in the brain.
