Chief Inspector Darrin Batchelor said the family was “extremely relieved” after enduring more than 16 hours “distraught with worry” over the boy, who was wearing shorts, a t-shirt and light jacket and had no food or money. had.

The alarm was raised when the quiet boy did not return home and an extensive nighttime search was launched involving PolAir police, the SES and RFS.

Fears for his safety increased when no trace of the boy was found and the nighttime temperature dropped to three degrees, with the wind chill making conditions ‘absolutely freezing’.

Supt Batchelor said Christopher was spotted Thursday morning by a woman driving on Annangrove Road, not far from his home.

“Of course he was quite cold… she gave him some water and a granola bar and he was very happy to have some warmth and get something to eat and drink,” he said.

The boy was checked by paramedics with no visible injuries, but was taken to hospital with possible mild hypothermia to be reunited with his parents.

“They were distraught overnight and yesterday afternoon, so it’s a great outcome,” said Supt Batchelor.

The boy was very cold and was reluctant to share what happened to him with police officers, but they believe he slept somewhere in the bush last night.

“We haven’t filled in all the puzzle pieces yet, but it looks like Christopher went on an adventure yesterday afternoon,” he said.

“At this stage, it looks like no one else was involved.”
