Drop The Dead Donkey cast reunite weeks after star cleared of GBH

Writers Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin said Globelink News’ well-known characters “will be plunged into the cutthroat world of modern 24-hour newsgathering as they try to navigate the daily chaos of social media, fake news and interim prime ministers”.

The Telegraph understands that if Rishi Sunak remains prime minister, he will “definitely” be mentioned in one of the topical last-minute gags of the show.

The announcement comes two weeks after Tompkinson, 57, was found not guilty of grievous bodily harm by Newcastle Crown Court.

He allegedly assaulted Karl Poole by hitting him in the head, after finding Poole and a friend drinking at the end of his driveway in the early hours of May 30, 2021.

Poole fell to the ground and fractured his skull when his head hit the pavement. Prosecutors had alleged that Tompkinson “lashed out” at Poole out of “disgust” at his behavior, but Tompkinson said Poole merely “made contact” with his outstretched hand as he tried to calm him down.

Tompkinson said he made contact with Poole’s face, but it hadn’t been enough to “knock a sober man off his feet”.

Tompkinson also told the court that it would have been “career suicide” for him to “do something as outrageous as assaulting someone.”
