A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed during a carjacking in Far North Queensland.
The driver, aged in her 50s, was stabbed when her car was stolen in Mighel, south of Innisfail, at around 4.15pm. She then ran to a nearby house for help.
Police found her with several stab wounds to the torso.
The stolen car crashed a short time later on the Bruce Highway at Sandy Pocket, Queensland Police said.
A man was arrested after a police search in the area.
A police spokesman said: “Residents continue to be urged to avoid the area while enquiries into what happened continue. The motorway remains closed. There is no further threat to public safety.”
