A car has rammed into several people sitting on a terrace at a bar in Marbella’s Costa del Sol holiday resort, with eight people injured, according to local reports.
Police and paramedics have rushed to the property, which is located in a part of the town center near the beach, which is full of cafes and eateries and extremely popular with tourists.
Disturbing images posted on social media showed victims being cared for on the pavement by benefactors as police closed the scene.
Local police reported that five people had been taken to Costa del Sol hospital, one of whom was seriously injured, according to The Sun.
It is not yet clear how many people were injured in total or whether anyone could have been killed.
According to local media, a 30-year-old man, believed to be the driver of the car, has been arrested after the incident. A report from South newspaper suggested that he had driven the car with his parents as passengers.
The bar is located on a street called Avenida Miguel Cano, near the place where holidaymakers tour Marbella in horse-drawn carriages.
Police have not yet officially commented on the incident, which took place around 3:30 PM local time (2:30 PM GMT).
Several ambulances and at least one fire truck were seen in photos of the scene, where the car appeared to have crashed into a storefront.
Fully vaccinated British holidaymakers are now saved from quarantine when they return to the UK from Spain.
