Drew Barrymore has been praised online after her emotional and vulnerable interview with Brooke Shields on her talk show.
The two former child stars sat down on The Drew Barrymore Show and spoke about their shared experiences of being exploited and sexualized as young children in the industry.
Brooke, 57, opened up about her abuse from the entertainment industry, which she shares in her new documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.
At one point in the candid chat, Drew, 48, asked her fellow actress if her childhood experiences influenced how she felt as the #MeToo movement gained momentum in 2017, with the pair becoming visibly emotional.
Drew said, “This is going to seem like a really weird twist. But what did you think of the Me Too movement, in the sense of, I didn’t feel like I had a dog in that race.

“I didn’t feel like I could talk to it because at such a young age I experienced things that were so inappropriate. … We were children. How has that movement affected you? Did you feel you could talk to it?’
Brooke admitted she felt the same way, saying, “I felt guilty, but at the same time you’re ashamed of yourself.”
“We were so young and it was so ‘appropriate’. I couldn’t feel pity. I didn’t even know. I didn’t know what it was. I did not know.’
Viewers back home took to Twitter to praise the two women and gush that Drew was “made” for the important interview because of her own experiences and caring nature.
One of them said, ‘I think a 10 minute conversation with Barrymore would literally permanently change my brain chemistry and cure me of all mental illness. I love her so very much.’
Another added, “I’d be so scared to talk to Drew Barrymore bc if she asked me for the time of day I’d fall into her arms and just cry.”
A third praised: “We are so lucky to have Drew Barrymore. She’s very special!’
A fourth reiterated, “I don’t think I realized how cold so many talk shows are until I saw Drew Barrymore get so intimate with her interviews. The sincerity radiates from her.’
While a fifth agreed, writing, “Drew is doing us a favour. She is doing Hollywood a service as a victim of so much herself. Thank you Drew Barrymore.”

During the interview, Brooke said her mother never dated anyone because she was “in love with her.”
The Blue Lagoon star got brutally honest about her relationship with her alcoholic late mother Teri Shields who died in 2012, days after she slapped Teri for making her pose nude for a Playboy publication at the age of 10.
Drew revealed she was able to relate as she shared her own stories about her famously dysfunctional relationship with her mother Jaid Barrymore, 76.
Drew asked Brooke if her mother Teri had dated one of her partners – as Drew’s own mother had.
“No, because she was in love with me,” Brooke claimed — adding that her mother had no interest in men as she ran her daughter’s career.
She added, “I was her main focus. We were both cut off from our sexuality.
Drew then shared her own experiences about a time when her mother tried to date Jaid with her boyfriend.
She said, “My mom was so in love with me she wanted to be with the people I was with,” to which Shields replied, “I get it.” It’s so needy and weird,” adding that her mother accompanied her to every interview she had when she was younger.
Brooke said, “Nobody’s gonna get you. I’ll be there. I’ll be there first. You’re mine. I’m not going to give you to anyone.

“Under the guise of protection, but it was more possession and fear.”
But at the time, Brooke didn’t mind how her mother acted, as she associated the work she did with being able to buy “stuff” for her mother.
“I made a movie and we have a car. All I knew was to keep my mom alive, keep dancing and get things,” she recalls.
‘But not to come off angry or jaded… that’s in your character. It’s in my character,” said the mother of daughters Rowan, 19, and Grier, 16.
