Drew Barrymore is taking her daytime talk show hosting skills to the next level for the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards.
The Golden Globe-winning actress announced Wednesday that she has been named emcee for the channel’s annual party to celebrate the best of movies and television of the year.
“And now, for a late-breaking report from Drew’s News, we turn to our special correspondent, M3GAN,” Barrymore said during a segment of his nationally syndicated talk show.
“Thank you, Drew,” Barrymore replied, dressed as the hot new horror movie character. “Actually, I have news for you: you are hosting the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards. How interesting.”
The “Charlie’s Angels” star, like herself, said she was looking forward to the show, which is about the fans. “It’s going to be an epic night, great moments, huge movie stars,” she said. “Cocaine Bear, are you free on May 7th?” she said in reference to the recent blockbuster.
Barrymore is no stranger to the MTV Movie and TV Awards. She has been nominated for nine of the awards, called Golden Popcorns, and has taken home three. The first was for best kiss in the 1998 Adam Sandler-driven comedy “The Wedding Singer.” She also won best on-screen team for “Charlie’s Angels” and last year she took home best talk show/topic.
In 2020, the “ET the Extra-Terrestrial” actress joined her frequent co-star Sandler for the Dynamic Duo special honor at MTV’s Greatest of All Time Awards.
The 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards are scheduled to broadcast live from the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles on May 7 at 8 pm ET/PT. The show will be broadcast internationally in more than 150 countries.
