League Cup Draw: Liverpool Host Chelsea, Manchester City Face Oxford

Liverpool face Chelsea in the third round of the League Cup, while the holders of Manchester City will begin their attempt to retain the trophy in the small Oxford. Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and Maurizio Sarri's Chelsea enter the competition in the third round due to their participation in the European action this season. His clash at Anfield will be a replay of the 2005 League Cup final won by Chelsea 3-2. City beat Arsenal to win the League Cup at Wembley last season, securing the first trophy of Pep Guardiola's reign at Etihad Stadium.

The Premier League champions head to the third level of Oxford to begin their defense of the trophy after receiving a second round of goodbye.

Manchester United, the winners of the 2016-17 League Cup, will face the Championship Derby at Old Trafford.

That could mean a meeting for Derby boss Frank Lampard and United coach Jose Mourinho, who won the 2005 trophy with Chelsea.

But that will depend on Mourinho surviving in the coming weeks after intense speculation that his work is in jeopardy after United's poor start to the season.

Tottenham Hotspur will face Watford in the midst of reports that the North London club has called for a "home" draw at the Milton Keynes Dons stadium as construction work continues on its new delayed stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino's team is playing their league games at Wembley while completing the rebuilt White Hart Lane.

Everton plays Southampton and Wolves receive Leicester in all Premier League leagues.

Macclesfield, the team with the lowest ranking in the competition in 23rd place in League Two, travels to the troubled West Ham.
