An elderly man who was caught keying a Tesla in a Woolworths car park has been charged

An elderly man who was caught tampering with a Tesla in a Woolworths car park has been charged with a major victory for the electric vehicle’s bewildered owner.

The 77-year-old was charged with destroying or damaging property after its owner, David Shannon, caught him tampering with the vehicle.

Shannon shared footage of the elderly man dragging a key down the side of the electric vehicle in Queanbeyan, near the ACT border, on September 19.

‘Does anyone know this man? Locked my car at Woolworths,” Mr Shannon captioned the video on a community Facebook page.

A police investigation led officers to a nearby home on September 24.

The 77-year-old was given a Country Court Attendance Notice to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on November 11.

Last month, viewers were quick to assume that Mr. Shannon was parked in a handicapped spot before quickly shutting down the theory.

‘To clarify, I am not in a handicap park. The handicap parks are on the right, as indicated by the arrow on the sign,’ he wrote.

“This will not be a cheap solution and I would love the opportunity to ask you nicely what prompted you to do this.”

Shannon previously told Daily Mail Australia the repairs would cost $3,000.
