A police officer praised for her brutal response to an argumentative man under arrest has been suspended without pay over an unrelated matter.

The officer silenced the offender when he refused to surrender quietly after being forced into a police vehicle in Cessnock, Hunter Valley, New South Wales, in February 2022.

Footage showed the officer telling the man to “stop acting like a jerk” and his brutal response earned him praise from Australians across the country.

The video has since resurfaced and gone viral with over 253,000 views and nearly 500 comments on one Instagram account in the past two days.

A NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday that the officer had been reminded of her “professional responsibilities” at the time.

It has since emerged that she had been suspended without pay for an issue unrelated to the insulting encounter.

The 31-year-old man had been arrested on an outstanding warrant for property crimes.

The footage showed the man shouting in the back of the police vehicle.

The officer, who did not mince his words, stood next to a police vehicle and silenced the problematic detainee.

“Do what you have to do,” he said, apparently inviting the officer to use the Taser.

“I’m not going to shoot you with a Taser. (But) You’re the one who stole things. You’re the one with a warrant. You’re the one in the dog box,” he replied.

—Yes? What a bitch! —the man shouted.

The officer quickly interrupted him, visibly fed up.

“What nonsense! Stop fooling around,” he snapped.

The man appeared to make a comment about the officer’s ability to do his job.

“At least I have a job,” he said.

The arrested man whispered something to her that prompted her to continue her savage repression.

“What’s this about stealing shit? Is that your job?” he said.

The images were captured by a local.

Social media users were quick to praise the officer on duty for her “quality banter.”

“She’s just telling the harsh truth; he needs her,” one wrote.

“Maybe if more people were told the reality of life, there would be no need to arrest them,” said another.

Spectators praised the policeman for telling the arrested man some

Viewers praised the policeman for telling the arrested man some “harsh truths” as the video went viral.

One viewer identified with the officer’s demanding daily work.

“I can’t stand the expectation that professionals walk on eggshells around people who refuse to help themselves. She told them so bluntly,” he wrote.

“Most Australian police officers are pretty calm and relaxed… at least in my experience,” said another.

Many commentators simply said “good for her.”

A NSW Police spokesperson said the arrested man appeared before Cessnock Local Court on 23 March 2022.

‘The matter has already been resolved in court.’
