He never did that when he was at Blackburn… former Rover Herold Goulon scores free-kick from own half in last minute of Malaysian Cup game
- Incredible scenes emerged during Pahang’s first-leg victory over visiting Perak
- An innocuous free-kick was awarded in Pahang’s own half in the final minute
- Despite leading 2-1, former Blackburn star Herold Goulon went for goal
- Soaring through the air the ball somehow lobbed the goalkeeper and went in
Spectacular scenes unfolded in the semi-finals of the Malaysia FA Cup, after the most unconventional of late goals hit the back of the net during Pahang’s victory over visiting Perak.
With the game ticking over into the final minute, a rather innocuous free-kick was awarded in Pahang’s own half.
Most teams in this situation would retain possession and see out the game, especially as Pahang were leading the first-leg tie with a 2-1 scoreline. Former Blackburn man Herold Goulon, however, had other ideas.

Herold Goulon pulled off something special in the semi-finals of the Malaysia FA Cup
After winning a free-kick in his own half in the final minute, Goulon sensationally went for goal
The effort rocketed through the air, completely catching the opposition goalkeeper off-guard
Precision and power saw the ball crash just under the crossbar to cement a 3-1 victory
The No 3 stepped up to the ball before making a purposeful run-up and hammering his right foot through it.
It immediately became apparently Goulon – who played four times for Blackburn between 2010 and 2012 – fancied his chances, and the ball quickly pulled through the air with violent trajectory.
As the goalkeeper sized up the rapidly-approaching effort, the ball arced just beneath the crossbar with pin-point precision and rippled the back of the net – causing scenes of hysteria.

Pahang had taken a 2-0 lead in the match courtesy of first-half goals by Goulon himself and Mohamadou Sumareh in the 11th and 40th minutes.
Partiban claimed one back for Perak in the 54th minute of the match, before Goulon’s jaw-dropping effort wrapped up a memorable first-leg victory.
The two sides meet again for the second leg of the fixture on Saturday June 29 at Perak Stadium in Kampung Simee.
In the other semi-final fixture Kedah FA hold a slender 1-0 lead against Felda United.
