Drake Callender makes a HORRIBLE mistake by leaving Lionel Messi and Inter Miami on the verge of exiting the Champions Cup when he passes the ball to Monterrey’s Brandon Vázquez when he tries to play from the back.

Inter Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender made a humiliating mistake playing from behind against Monterrey in the Champions Cup on Wednesday night: USMNT teammate Brandon Vázquez intercepted his pass and scored an easy goal.

Lionel Messi and Inter Miami came into the match in Mexico trailing 2-1, but after a difficult start, Callender’s mistake left the team on the brink of exit.

Thomas Avilés returned the ball to his goalkeeper with minimal pressure and when Callender controlled the ball, Vázquez slowly approached to reduce the goalkeeper’s passing angle.

Callender then attempted to go over the Monterrey attacker, who intercepted the timid attempt and duly converted from close range to give his team a 3-1 aggregate lead in the 31st minute.

“Everyone wants to play at the back. “It’s a gift, an unnecessary gift,” FOX analyst Alexi Lalas said at halftime, suggesting Callender should have hit the ball long.

Until then, it had been a disciplined but promising performance for Miami, which welcomed Messi back to the starting lineup.

Argentina’s World Cup winner started in attack alongside Luis Suarez, with Miami owner David Beckham watching from the stands in Mexico.

Miami was down 2-1 from the first leg counting away goals, meaning Messi and his men needed three goals to advance in regulation and two to reach overtime.

Suárez thought he had one on the stroke of half-time, ran towards goal and left-footed Esteban Andrada, only to have it correctly ruled offside.
