A powerful new candidate has thrown her hat in the race for Malcolm Turnbull's old Wentworth seat and will do so as an independent.
The former president of the Australian Medical Association and Sydney's counselor, Professor Kerryn Phelps AM, has expressed her desire to enter the political landscape of Canberra, which has already succeeded in changing laws from outside parliament.
Prof. Phelps sat down with The Daily Telegraph to discuss his participation in the by-elections on October 20.

"As in an independent person, over a period of weeks I was able to achieve a full Senate investigation into the My Health registry," he said.
"If a single voice can achieve a complete revision of a law, then an independent voice within Parliament can achieve much more, in some respects, than people who are tied to a partisan position."
Prof. Phelps was a champion of change and worked hard to lobby for changes in the laws of gay marriage, medical compensation and adoption.
After helping to modernize the adoption laws, she and her wife Jackie Stricker-Phelps were able to adopt their daughter Gabrielle.
By choosing to function as an independent media, Prof. Phelps will relinquish any future opportunities to be a minister or hold a leadership position.
& # 39; Can not tell me how to think. The reason why there is an increase in support for independents is because people want authenticity, integrity and honesty, "he said.

His biggest obstacle will be to beat the political opponent and liberal candidate Dave Sharma, who was elected ahead of Katherine O & # 39; Regan.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison was forced to grimace after initially saying that he had endorsed Ms. O & # 39; Regan for the Liberal candidacy after calling more women in the party.
Despite being a candidate for the candidacy, O & # 39; Regan was eliminated in the third round of preselection with only 21 votes out of 201.
After learning about Mr. Sharma's candidacy, Professor Phelps said he could not believe that the Liberals could not find someone in the community to represent him.
The electorate was forced to go to partial elections after the resignation of Malcolm Turnbull after the spill of the liberal leadership, which took to Morrison to become prime minister.

Prof. Phelps was the first LGBT person elected to the presidency of the Australian Medical Association.
She said she was running for Wentworth headquarters to bring some "stability and common sense to a very volatile situation" and aspires to be a voice of reason in parliament.
Prof. Phelps believes that it is time for Australians to stand up and be heard and to demonstrate to Canberra that they want changes in the way politics is done.
Wentworth voters knew that Mr. Turnbull was an advocate of same-sex marriage, climate change and the Republican cause, but Professor Phelps said he had been hampered by Canberra's policies.
