It’s a habit many of us are guilty of, but Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki warns why you should never put your feet up on the coffee table.
The Australian scientist urged everyone to stop putting their feet on furniture after a disturbing study found traces of faeces on the surface.
‘Here with the big question: ‘Should you put your feet up on the coffee table?’ said.
Dr. Karl explained that almost all new pairs of shoes become covered in fecal matter from animals and even public toilets within 12 weeks of wearing them.
“If you buy new shoes and wear them for three months… At the end of three months, 93 percent of them will have fecal contamination, a polite way of saying poop, on the soles,” he said.
“It comes from the feces of dogs and cats when you walk in a park or when you enter a public bathroom.”
The doctor said that feces, especially those of cats, can cause serious health problems, especially in pregnant women.
“Cat feces can carry toxoplasmosis,” said Dr. Karl, explaining that it is an infection caused by a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii.

“If a woman is pregnant and becomes infected with toxoplasmosis for the first time, this can cause developmental problems in the baby.”
And it’s not just the outdoors that we should worry about.
Dr. Karl said fecal matter can also come from your own bathroom at home or from “babies who are very dirty.”
In another study, Dr. Karl said researchers looked at a group of young men living in houses without women.
“When you look at their coffee tables, 70 percent have fecal contamination,” he said.
“So here’s a public service announcement: You probably won’t put your feet up on the coffee table.”
His video has been viewed over 17,000 times and many agree with Dr. Karl’s statement about the “disgusting habit.”
While many said they always take off their shoes at the door.
“There are no shoes in the house… We think it’s strange and rude,” said one.
‘In our culture, this is one of the reasons we don’t wear shoes indoors. “Sometimes it just makes sense,” another shared.
‘I’m starting to think you’re following me everywhere. “I think I do everything you say not to do,” one added.
Meanwhile, one joked: “So what you’re saying is: stay away from a bachelor pad, I get it,” to which Dr Karl replied: “Not at all.”
