Dr. Dre has been accused of making a series of threats to his former marriage counselor in a newly filed $10 million lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed by Dr. Charles Sophy, a psychiatrist who said he counseled the Compton, California, native, 59, and his ex-wife Nicole Young, 54, during their marriage and as a mediator after their separation. TMZ reported Wednesday after reviewing legal documents in the case.
Sophy said in court documents that he had felt intimidated by the rapper’s threats and, as a result, had put on a bulletproof vest as a precaution.
Sophy told the court that in February 2023, a year and two months after the bitter divorce was finalized in December 2021, Dr. Dre began flooding her with ‘abusive and threatening text messages,’ according to TMZ.
Sophy said in legal documents that the Beats Electronics founder had falsely accused him of orchestrating a smear campaign against her amid the split with Young, the outlet reported.

Sophy told the court that Dr. Dre falsely claimed that Sophy arranged for an outsider to make inflammatory comments to the media about him.
Sophy said in legal documents that Dr. Dre sent text messages promising he would ‘make (Sophy) pay for it,’ calling him a ‘piece of shit’ and a ‘b****’ amid the messages’ rants. text.
The Forgot About Dre artist, whose full name is Andre Young, at one point had his associates pose as FBI agents to contact him in the gated community where he resides, Sophy claimed in the lawsuit, according to TMZ.
Sophy told the court after the incident, in which he said associates posing as federal officials threatened to physically harm him, that he spent additional money to secure his home.
Sophy said that as a result of the incident, she began wearing bulletproof vests and hats when she leaves her house, the outlet reported.
Sophy also asked the court to issue a restraining order keeping Dr. Dre at least 100 meters away.
‘Dr. “Sophy filed her lawsuit only after she failed to pressure Mr. Young to abandon his efforts to punish Dr. Sophy for dereliction of duty and incredible incompetence,” Dr. Dre’s attorney, Howard King, told TMZ.
King said Dr. Dre in 2023 filed a confidential complaint with the California Osteopathic Medical Board about his experience with Sophy.

“In gross violation of all applicable standards of care, Dr. Sophy engaged in a contentious divorce while simultaneously “treating” not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children,” King told TMZ.
He continued: ‘He was fired when it was revealed that he was encouraging one of his sons to take sides against Mr Young, even encouraging his son to go to the press with false accusations to force a financial settlement he recommended. ‘
King said Sophy “has consistently rejected” officials’ attempts to investigate the aforementioned allegations, and described her efforts to file the lawsuit as “desperate.”
