Disturbing images have emerged of the occupants of an erratically driven ute with P plates appearing to launch water bomb balloons at a young schoolboy, pedestrians and other road users in an affluent suburb.

A concerned motorist filmed the incident as the white van traveled along Military Road in Dover Heights, in Sydney’s east, on February 2.

Footage showed objects thrown from the driver’s and passenger’s windows at people walking on footpaths and at a delivery man on a bicycle waiting at an intersection.

The objects splashed as they fell to the ground.

A schoolboy who was on a corner of the road was hit by one of the objects.

Close-up images showed his shirt soaked.

The van was also filmed going down a one-way street in the wrong direction.

The man who filmed the incident provided the footage to New South Wales Police, but told radio station 2GB on Wednesday that no action had been taken.

Police told 2GB presenter Ben Fordham they were unaware of the complaint and asked for his details again.

Fordham called the police’s apparent lack of action “bad form.”

Police told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday morning that the incident is being investigated.

“Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have launched an investigation following a report that the occupants of a vehicle were seen throwing objects at pedestrians,” the police statement said.

“As investigations continue, anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Eastern Suburbs Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 300 000.”
