Second Mr Douglas Emhoff has said it was love at first sight when he met Vice President Kamala Harris, predicting that he will be the first of many men to serve as a partner to a Vice President or President.
Emhoff, 56, wrote an opinion piece GQ On Tuesday, he expressed his pride in Harris, saying it was a “ humiliating experience ” to join her on the campaign trail, which gave him a newfound appreciation for politics.
The moment I met Kamala, I knew I was in love. Not only because of who she is – the warm, funny, and compassionate woman who serves our family – but also because of the deep determination with which she fights for the causes she believes in, ” Emhoff wrote.
Emhoff met Harris on a blind date in 2013, when she was the attorney general of California and he was a powerful entertainment attorney in Los Angeles.

Now they will live together in Blair House, the diplomatic residence across the street from the White House, instead of the vice president’s traditional mansion at the Naval Observatory.
After Harris accepted Biden’s offer to join the campaign, Emhoff retired from his job as a lawyer and joined her on the campaign trail.
“I found that when I started dipping my toe into Kamala’s world, it brought us even closer together,” he wrote.
‘I realized how much of yourself you leave behind on the path, how much these stories weigh on you, and – although I never thought it possible – I began to understand and admire who she is and what she has been able to achieve even more. , ‘he continued.

Emhoff said that although he had paved a new path by becoming the first Second Gentleman, he predicted many more would follow.
“It reminds me of a story Kamala loves to tell about her mother Shyamala, who always said to her daughters, ‘You may be the first, but you better not be the last,’ he wrote.
‘I want that to be true for me too. I may be the first Second Gentleman, but I know I won’t be the last, ‘Emhoff wrote.
While Harris has had an illustrious career shattering several glass ceilings, Emhoff is a success story in its own right.
Before the campaign, he worked as a powerful entertainment lawyer who brought home an annual salary of more than $ 1 million.
Last month, Georgetown University Law Center announced that Emhoff would join the school’s faculty as a distinguished visitor and a distinguished fellow of the school’s Institute for Technology Law and Policy.

Emhoff, who is exactly a week older than Harris, was born in Brooklyn, New York, but as a teenager his parents Mike and Barb moved to Southern California, where he has lived ever since.
He and Harris were founded by Harris ‘best friend, PR consultant Chrisette Hudlin, who told her,’ He’s adorable and he’s the managing partner of his law firm and I think you’ll like him. ‘
They clicked immediately when he texted her from court at an LA Lakers game. She replied ‘Go Lakers’ despite being a fan of Golden State Warriors.
The next morning he called her while she was in the gym for work.
“I had an early meeting and while I was driving to work I couldn’t get you out of my mind,” he later told her.
‘I kept telling myself,’ It’s 8:30, it’s way too early to call her. That would be ridiculous. Don’t be that guy. Don’t call her. Do not do it. ‘
But he called anyway and left a long, piercing message. He thought he had ruined his chances so badly that he even considered leaving a second long-winded message explaining the first.
But Harris – who still has the message stored on her phone – found it ‘endearing’. She called him back at lunch and they talked for an hour.
“It sounds corny, I know, but the conversation just went on,” Harris wrote in her memoir The Truths We Hold. “I remember breaking each other, joking, and laughing at ourselves, just like we do now.”
The couple married in the Santa Barbara courthouse on August 22, 2014. “In keeping with our Indian and Jewish heritage, I put a flower garland around Doug’s neck and he stamped on a glass.” Harris wrote in her memoirs
Emhoff and Harris recently celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary
Emhoff has developed a close relationship with Jill Biden, who previously served as Second Lady
They dated a few times and went out for the first time with their budding romance during a speech she gave about the ills of truancy – “not exactly what most people consider a romantic date,” she wrote.
Within a year, Emhoff – who says Bradley Cooper should play him if a movie about his wife is made – submitted a proposal, but even that didn’t go well.
Harris had other things on her mind. She was desperate for a favorite pair of pants she’d lost and craved Thai food.
When Emhoff stated that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, she replied, “That’s nice honey, should we have chicken or shrimp on the pad thai?” Only then did she notice that he was on one knee.

“In keeping with our Indian and Jewish heritage, I put a flower garland around Doug’s neck and he stamped on a glass.” Harris wrote.
It is Emhoff’s second marriage. He was previously married to film producer Kerstin Mackin, with whom he shares two grown children, Cole and Ella.
Harris has become close to the kids, who call her Momala because they don’t like the term stepmother.
She is also friends with their mother, Mackin.
“It really clicked,” Harris wrote in her book. “We sometimes joke that our modern family is almost a bit too functional.”
Emhoff has been by her side constantly and has become close to Jill Biden, who previously served as Second Lady.
