Doug Emhoff became visibly emotional as Vice President Kamala Harris took the stage during the final night of the Democratic Convention.

The second gentleman wiped away a tear as he was comforted by his daughter Ella in the audience at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday night.

When his wife accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president, Emhoff blew kisses toward the stage.

Emhoff had his turn to speak on the second night of the convention on Tuesday. He took the stage while Harris was holding a rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and before the audience heard from the event’s keynote speakers, Michelle and Barack Obama.

Harris closed out the 2024 Democratic National Convention with her speech Thursday after a whirlwind month in which President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid and the vice president took over his campaign.

Several other members of Harris’ family graced the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, including her stepdaughter Ella, her niece Meena Harris and her goddaughter Helena Hudlin.

And the vice president’s younger sister, Maya Harris, introduced her.

The Chicks performed the National Anthem and P!nk sang during a segment of the evening focused on the Democrats’ proposal to address gun violence.

Actress Kerry Washington helped host the show on the final night and comedian and actor Ben Stiller was spotted in the audience.

Emhoff, who is Jewish, will become the first US first gentleman if his wife wins the presidency in November, after already becoming the first American second gentleman in 2021.

Ella and Cole, Emhoff’s two children, affectionately call Harris “Mom.” Both sat next to their father during the convention.

Emhoff met Harris in 2013 when one of the lawyer’s clients set them up on a blind date.

The couple married less than a year later in a ceremony that included aspects of both Emhoff’s Jewish faith and Harris’s Indian heritage.

The vice president has been heard affectionately calling her husband “Dougie” or “my Dougie.”
