Two British tourists have been found dead in their separate hotel rooms within just a few hours in Greece.

The first British tourist, a 71-year-old woman, was found dead in her hotel room in Hersonissos, Crete, on the afternoon of October 23.

Her son made the surprising discovery and raised the alarm, but ambulance staff sent to the scene were unable to revive the woman.

Just hours later, a 58-year-old Briton was found unconscious in his room at another hotel in Hersonissos.

An ambulance was called and the unconscious man was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Local police are investigating both cases and it is understood that both tourists had health problems.

Two autopsies have been scheduled to shed light on the cause of his death.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson said: “We are aware of the deaths of two British nationals in Crete and are in contact with local authorities.”

The deaths of the two British tourists come just a week after a British tourist who was on holiday with her husband fell to her death in a hotel in Crete.

The woman, 65, was staying at the Hersonissos hotel before the tragic incident occurred.

Emergency services responded to the scene and the traveler was hospitalized in critical condition with serious injuries at the Venizelio hospital, according to local reports.

Doctors intubated her and transferred her to the Intensive Care Unit, where she succumbed to her injuries on October 16.
