A DoorDash delivery driver placed an order as a customer and then logged into her work account to accept the job of delivering her food.

One savvy DoorDash user decided to take matters into her own hands after ordering a pizza delivery: She picked up the food herself and made some money along the way.

Recounting the hack on TikTok, the woman detailed how she delivered the order to herself after the app took too long to assign a driver to the job.

Shalom, a DoorDash delivery driver, placed the order as a customer and then logged into her work account to accept the job delivering Papa John’s food.

After picking up his food, he even left himself a $2 tip.

His job account showed he would earn $11.75 per “active hour” from the time he accepted the job, plus tips.

Shalom also gave himself a “splendid” five-star rating before being shown enjoying the meal.

While this clever trick might seem like a no-no, there is no official company rule prohibiting DoorDash workers from doing so.

Viewers of the clip revealed they had pulled the same stunt on DoorDash, and at least two claimed to have done it on other delivery apps.

“I did the same thing with Uber Eats too. I left a $15 tip because that was the max, and it was five miles away and I’m in San Francisco,” one commenter wrote.

Another person added: “I’ve been doing this for years! It’s definitely not worth the pennies you spend.”

One fan of the practice tried to explain the math involved to make the trick worthwhile.

“The best thing is when you do it for hours, so if you take 30-60 minutes you get the food for free in a sense,” the commenter wrote.

A DoorDash spokesperson poured cold water on the hack, saying it “makes no sense.”

“Let’s be clear: this is not a trick or a tip, but a marketing stunt,” the spokesperson said. “Consumers can already pick up their orders. This may make sense as content, but it doesn’t make sense in real life, when the pick-up is done on the spot.”
