Tributes are being paid to a man described as a loving father who died in a tragic house fire with his son in Melbourne’s east.

Victoria Police are investigating the cause of the fire on Craig Road, Donvale, however a spokeswoman confirmed the blaze is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.45am on Saturday and found the two-storey house on fire.

After a 45-minute battle, the blaze was deemed under control shortly after 4.30am and the bodies of father Calvin Reeder and son Brendon were found inside.

Mr Reeder’s neighbour, Angelo von Möller, paid tribute to him, describing him as a warm and generous person.

“This is an incredibly tragic loss for our community,” Möller told NewsWire.

‘Calvin was always there for us and our neighbors, whether it was just to chat or fix a tractor part, he was there for us.

“He was the epitome of a good neighbor. He was a loving father to his son Brendon.”
