Donny van de Beek ‘expected to hold talks with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about his role in the squad next season’ … after a £ 40 million contract, he made just four Premier League starts in his first season at Old Trafford
- Donny van de Beek was bought from Ajax by Manchester United for £ 40 million
- Yet the Dutchman was not a regular customer in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI
- He scored only one goal and registered two assists in a difficult debut season
- Now Van De Beek is looking for certainty about his role in the run-up to next season
Manchester United playmaker Donny van de Beek will reportedly be in talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about his role in the squad next season.
The 24-year-old Holland international had a difficult first season at Old Trafford after his £ 40 million switch from Ajax last summer.
Van De Beek made only four starts in the Premier League and was an unused substitute in United’s Europa League final against Villarreal last week.

Now, The Telegraph report that Van De Beek is expected to talk to the United boss next year about his role after a season of stagnation after his breakthrough at Ajax.
He is currently on international service with the Netherlands in the run-up to this summer’s European championships.
In November, Van De Beek admitted that he would like to play more and said: ‘I am a patient person, but of course you go there to play as much as possible.
“I also think – in the minutes that I have made, during the times that I have come in – I have shown that I can add something to the team.”
Solskjaer took the 24-year-old over from Ajax last season, but he did not play regularly
In 36 appearances in all competitions, Van De Beek scored only one goal and registered only two assists.
The fact that he was not deployed last Wednesday, when United were looking for a winner against a fake Villarreal defense, is likely to worry the ex-Ajax man.
Van De Beek was United’s main summer attack last summer, but will be surprised last season by his lack of minutes, especially in the Premier League.
