Former President Donald Trump confirmed at a town hall Monday that six Republicans are on his short list for potential running mate and vice president, including two former challengers and a former Democrat.

Trump confirmed that Florida Governor and former rival Ron DeSantis, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina are among the former rivals being considered.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Florida Republican Byron Donalds and former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard are on his list.

A DailyMail.com poll in New Hampshire found Ramasmway the leading choice for running mate, followed by Scott in second place and Tucker Carlson and Ben Carson in third place.

‘All those people are good. They’re all solid,” Trump told Laura Ingraham on Monday night.

Trump said, however, that deciding on a running mate might not be the most important decision of his campaign.

“The one thing that always surprises me is that the vice president’s election has no impact,” he said.

Trump noted that 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had a huge impact, but faced attacks like no one before.

He then tried to make his arguments about the qualities he felt his running mate should bring to the candidacy.

In January, DailyMail.com broke down what Trump looks for in a candidate and who the top contenders are.

The key choice Trump will face will be whether he wants to raise overall loyalty, prowess on the stump or the ability to attract independents and moderates in a closely divided election.

His former vice president, Mike Pence, isn’t even in the mix, after Trump blamed him for lacking “courage” on Jan. 6 and his own presidential campaign imploded.

Trump fueled the gossip when he told a Fox News town hall in Iowa this month that “I know who it’s going to be,” though comments from his advisers at the time suggested Trump may have gotten a little ahead of himself. Now, just a few weeks later, informal advisers are passing along names.

‘I think it would be good for a vice presidential candidate to check several boxes: Who helps solidify the base? Who can go to suburban areas and expand support by talking to these moms in a kind and compassionate way? Hogan Gidley, a former Trump White House press aide who still consults with the former president, told DailyMail.com.

‘Who can take the America-first policies that so many people support, a vast majority of people in their country, and not only implement them, but continue to grow them not for the next four years but for the next 12?’

“As a bonus, it would be nice if that person could talk to the press, understand Trump’s world, understand the president himself, be a fighter, be unflappable.”

Advisers are already suggesting names to former President Donald Trump for potential running mates as he grapples with the ongoing challenge from Nikki Haley following her victories in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Trump must decide whether to prioritize MAGA loyalty or seek to broaden his appeal at the margins as he leads Joe Biden in the polls.
