Donald Trump slammed Joe Biden as the “worst president” in history moments after his Democratic rival dropped out of the 2024 race.

Trump told CNN that Biden “is the worst president in the history of our country. He will go down in history as the worst president in the history of our country.”

It will also be easier to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris than Biden.

The former president also took to Truth Social to say that Biden only became president “through lies, fake news, and staying out of his basement.”

“We will suffer greatly from his presidency, but we will repair the damage he has caused very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he wrote.

The Trump campaign has been preparing for the possibility that Biden might drop out of the race.

The former president has been increasingly attacking Harris at his rallies as Democrats pressure Biden to resign.

Biden shook up the presidential race on Sunday with his surprise announcement that he was dropping out of re-election.

“While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to resign and focus exclusively on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” he wrote in a letter to the American people.

He later endorsed Harris to replace him, though it is unclear whether she will ultimately be the nominee.

Polls show Trump would be Harris if she were the Democratic nominee.

A YouGov poll last week found that 39 percent of respondents would vote for Harris while 44 percent would vote for Trump.

Democrats will nominate their candidate at their convention next month.

The Democratic National Convention is set to begin August 19-22 in Chicago, where Biden was scheduled to formally accept the nomination after receiving 3,896 delegates during the primaries.

Because Biden dropped out of the race before officially becoming the nominee, the more than 3,900 pledged delegates can cast their ballots at an open convention for the candidate of their choice.

They may line up behind Harris, who, because of federal law, is the only candidate who can use the money Biden has raised for the 2024 race.

Delegates will vote at the full convention.

If a candidate wins a majority of pledged delegates on the first ballot, he or she becomes the party’s nominee.

If no candidate wins a majority, the nearly 740 superdelegates, also known as automatic delegates, which include party members and elected officials, can also vote.

Voting continues until one candidate receives a majority of delegates.
