President-elect Donald Trump is expected to be named Time Magazine’s 2024 Person of the Year.
The magazine will announce on Thursday morning that it will give the title to the new US leader after he won the presidential election last month.
This is evident from several reports. This was first reported by Politico on Wednesday afternoon.
To mark the occasion, the president-elect will head to Wall Street Thursday morning to ring the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange.
This is the second time the 78-year-old has been named Person of the Year, having also received the title in 2016 following his first victory in the presidential election.
Earlier this week, Time published its shortlist of potential candidates, including Trump and nine others.
Kamala Harris, Elon Musk, Princess Kate Middleton, Jerome Powell, Claudia Sheinbaum, Yulia Navalnaya, Joe Rogan, Benjamin Netanyahu and Mark Zuckerberg were also considered for the title.
Every year since 1927, the magazine has named a person, group or concept that has had the “greatest impact – for good or ill – on the world in the past twelve months.”

Last year, megastar Taylor Swift was named Person of the Year 2023, in the midst of her global Eras tour and the release of another chart-topping album. She posed with her cat on the cover of the magazine.
Trump joins thirteen other US presidents to have been named Person of the Year, including most recently President Biden who received the title in 2020.
Besides Trump, seven of those presidents have been named Time’s Person of the Year more than once.
Leading up to the big reveal, Time has released a series of other titles for different categories.
Singer Elton John was named Time’s Icon of the Year, Caitlin Clark of the WNBA was named Athlete of the Year and Lisa Su of Advanced Micro Devices was named CEO of the Year.

Trump has long been obsessed with being on the cover of Time Magazine and has run for Person of the Year in the past.
In 2017, he claimed the magazine called to say he would “probably” be Person of the Year, but he “didn’t make the cut.” Time Magazine disputed his claim.

In some online posts in recent years since he entered politics, Trump has celebrated making the cover of Time. On other occasions he has criticized the old magazine for its reporting, claiming it is failing.
In 2012, Trump argued that Time had lost all its credibility when it failed to include him in its Top 100 Most Influential People.
Over the years, Time has named a series of American and global leaders, entertainers, scientists and movements as Person of the Year.
More recently, in addition to Taylor Swift, Elon Musk, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and ‘The Spirit of Ukraine’ all received the title.
