Donald Trump forgave the former owner of San Francisco 49ers Edward DeBartolo Jr. on Tuesday amid speculation that he will apply his presidential power to Roger Stone.
Several former NFL players were in the White House on Tuesday – including Jim Brown, Jerry Rice, Charles Haley and Ronnie Lott – to talk to the president about DeBartolo.
They praised the decision to grant him grace.
“I’m taking my hat off for Donald Trump for what he did,” Rice said.

Brown called DeBartolo a “big man.”
DeBartolo paid $ 400,000 to former La. Governor Edwin Edwards to help win a casino license for a riverboat in 1998.
He owned the 49ers for 23 years and won five Super Bowls as their owner. He resigned as owner in 1997 after two Louisiana newspapers reported that he would be charged with gambling fraud.
In 1992, DeBartolo was accused of sexual abuse by a cocktail waitress he met at a local bar in California. He denied any misconduct and was never charged, but allegedly paid $ 200,000 to settle the case out of court.
Rice, who won three Super Bowls with the 49ers as a broad receiver, praised DeBartolo for the ownership of the team.
“It was all about family. That is really what they stood for. And that’s why I think we’ve won so many championships, “Rice said.
“Eddie was like that 12th man on that soccer field. You know this guy, you know, he wanted us to win. And I think he’s the main reason why we won so many Super Bowls. So today is a great day for him. I am happy to be here and to be part of it. And you know, it’s just something I’ll never forget. You know, this man, he has done so much in the community, he has done so much in NFL football, “he commented.

DeBartolo’s grace comes amid speculation that Trump will grant Roger Stone grace
Jim Brown, who praised Trump’s decision, is a long-standing proponent of the president who co-hosted an inauguration party after Trump won the 2016 election.
The former fullback for the Cleveland Browns was also at the White House in October 2018 when Trump met rapper Kayne West in the Oval Office.
In the meantime, Trump used his pardon for DeBartolo, because speculation has begun that he can do the same for his old friend and former campaigner Roger Stone.
Stone was convicted on seven points, including tampering with witnesses and lying to investigators, as part of the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
Trump called the case against Stone “infected” in a tweet on Tuesday morning, but the judge refused a motion by Stone’s lawyers for a new trial.
