President Donald Trump was escorted from his press conference on Monday, less than five minutes after it began after police shot a suspect shooting at the White House.
“There was a shooting outside the White House and it seems to be well controlled,” President Trump said after returning to the room.
“I want to thank the Secret Service for their always fast and very effective work. There was a real shooting and someone was taken to the hospital. I don’t know the person’s condition. It looks like the person was shot by the Secret Service, so we’ll see what happens, ‘he said.

Reporters in the briefing room indicated that the room was locked, which is standard for a security breach.
Police could be seen outside the press conference area, which is located in the west wing of the White House.
