“It’s a great justification, it feels good!” Donald Trump hails John Durham’s report criticizing the FBI for pursuing a baseless Russian collusion theory and blames sore loser Hillary for the scandal
Donald Trump has responded to Justice Department special counsel John Durham’s report on the origins of the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation, saying the findings justify his claims of baseless prosecution.
“It’s a great vindication and it feels good, and the report has been widely praised,” Trump told Newsmax in a telephone interview Tuesday night.
“All these people are — I think you could call it betrayal. You could call it many different things. But this should never happen again in our country,” Trump said.
When the former president blamed his 2016 election opponent, Hillary Clinton, for the controversial FBI investigation on his own campaign.
“This really started when she lost the election,” Trump said. “They call this a big, big surprise and they didn’t know what to say. And they said: Let’s blame Russia. Somehow someone came up with the idea, let’s blame Russia for her loss.’
“This was really an excuse why she lost the election. She blamed Russia. And it’s very sad, very, very bad for our country,” Trump added.
Donald Trump has responded to Justice Department special counsel John Durham’s report on the origins of the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation, saying the findings support his claims
Durham’s 306-page report on Monday draws negative attention once again to one of the most politically significant investigations in FBI history: the investigation into whether Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign conspired with Russia to control the outcome of the influence elections.
The findings are unflattering to the FBI, with Durham claiming the agency rushed into the investigation without an adequate basis and routinely ignored or rationalized evidence that undermined its premise.
The report catalogs a series of errors – though many years ago were already documented by a separate report from the Justice Department’s Inspector General. The FBI itself says it has taken several dozen corrective measures.
Developing story, more to come.
