Donald Trump has accused Kamala Harris of lying about her job at McDonald’s, a claim that has sparked endless speculation.
Trump was speaking at the Moms for Liberty convention in Washington on Friday when he expressed skepticism about this part of Harris’ biography, which she has used to proclaim her ordinary background.
“She also said, ‘I worked at McDonald’s.’ It turned out she didn’t work at McDonald’s,” the former president told the audience.
“Did anyone see that?” he continued. “After a thorough study that took about 20 minutes, they discovered that she never worked there.”

Trump’s comments come as questions continue to mount about Harris’ claim.
In April, Harris appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, where she was asked if she worked at the fast food restaurant.
“Yes, I worked at McDonald’s,” the vice president said. “When I was in school… I cooked French fries. And then I worked as a cashier.”
Harris is reported to have worked at a franchise in the Bay Area during the summer after her freshman year of college at Howard University.
However, he did not mention this biographical detail until he ran for president five years ago.
Addressing workers at a labor rally in Las Vegas in 2019, the future vice president first referred to her time at the Golden Arches.
“I worked at McDonald’s,” he told the crowd. “I was a student when I worked at McDonald’s.”
From the start, some were skeptical of the claim, noting that Harris had never previously mentioned it during the campaign trail or in the two memoirs she had written.

According to the free beaconIn his book The Truths We Hold, published in 2019, he does not mention his time at the Golden Arches, although he does include a passage about the work he did at the university.
Similarly, two biographies about Harris make no reference to her employment at McDonald’s.
Dan Morain, author of Kamala’s Way: An American Life, told the free beacon who “didn’t know” about his job at the fast food restaurant.
Critics also cite the fact that Harris failed to mention her time at McDonald’s on a resume and job application she submitted a year after graduating from college.

In his job application for a law clerk position in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, the vice president, who was in law school at the time, provided a list of previous jobs.
Despite being asked to list all the positions she has worked in over the past ten years, Harris did not mention McDonald’s, further fueling speculation that the claim is dubious.
However, others have responded that it would make no sense to reference working at a fast food restaurant on a job application for the district attorney’s office.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the claim has come under scrutiny, given that Harris’s campaign has leaned on it to shore up the vice president’s middle-class image.
Harris’s time at McDonald’s is also being used as a way to differentiate her from Trump, who is being portrayed as an elite out of touch with reality.
Earlier this month, campaign spokeswoman Lauren Hitt said the Democratic candidate was “the daughter of a working mother and worked at a McDonald’s to put herself through college.”
The daughter of a renowned biomedical scientist and a Stanford economist, Harris has also used her time at Golden Arches to project a more humble image.
At a campaign event earlier this month, she identified herself and her running mate, Tim Walz, as two “middle-class kids,” one of whom had a “summer job at McDonald’s.”
According PoliticalAn early clip from a campaign ad even claimed Harris worked at the fast-food restaurant to “pay her way through college.”

However, the employees quickly changed this because the truth was that she had taken the summer job to have some extra spending money.
But Harris’s time at McDonald’s is also being used as a way to distinguish her from Trump, who is being portrayed as an out-of-touch elite.
Trump grew up the son of a wealthy New York City real estate developer and never had cash flow problems.
“You know, Vice President Harris grew up in a middle-class family and worked shifts at McDonald’s as a student,” Governor Walz said at the AFSCME convention.
“I keep asking myself this for contrast,” he continued. “Can you imagine Donald Trump working at a McDonald’s trying to make a McFlurry or something?”
