Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard has hinted at the possibility of seeking the arrest of her political rivals during a lengthy social media rant, as her landlord revealed frustrations over her ongoing eviction battle.
Henyard shared a nearly 90-minute live video on Facebook on Tuesday. After a Thornton township meeting was canceled due to lack of attendance, Henyard, who also leads the township, defended himself against growing criticism.
The embattled mayor addressed allegations regarding her management of local affairs and finances, while calling her opponents corrupt.
“I will seek arrests for the people involved,” he said on Facebook Live. ‘I will press charges. It’s a lot. And that’s just what I’m telling you a little bit, because this whole finger-pointing thing at Tiffany, or lying to me, I’m over it. Now is the time for me to speak. The truth speaks.’
Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard hinted at the possibility of seeking the arrest of her political rivals during a lengthy social media rant.
In a 90-minute Facebook live video, Thornton defended himself against the mounting criticism.
Although Henyard did not specify the charges he intended to bring, he accused his enemies of being driven by a “power and money grab,” according to WGN 9.
She also promised to later reveal the “full truth” about the controversies surrounding her.
The meeting was abandoned after only one Thornton administrator showed up.
Henyard clashed with Dolton administrators over meeting locations, leading her to file an ultimately unsuccessful lawsuit. NBCChicago reported.
Meanwhile, Henyard faces possible eviction as her landlord, Genetta Hull, claimed that Henyard and her boyfriend have not paid their full rent since August.
Hull, who had previously rented his property to the mayor, said fox 32 that their relationship deteriorated in 2021 when Henyard pressured her to move into the house.
The frustrated landlord raised the rent by $200 over the summer due to a property tax increase, bringing it to $2,400 a month.
Henyard’s boyfriend, Kamal Woods, said they couldn’t afford the increase.
Hull alleged that they have not paid full rent since August nor have they made any payments in September. In addition, he accused the “dictator” mayor of changing the locks and the garage code to prevent him from accessing the property.
Hull filed an eviction lawsuit in Cook County court in September, but was unable to serve the couple. They are said to owe more than $3,300 in rent payments on their home in the 14600 block of South Harvard.
Henyard’s lawyer has refuted the allegations of non-payment of rent, calling them false.
“I will seek arrests for the people involved,” he said on Facebook Live.
This latest controversy follows an $85,000 party that Mayor Tiffany Henyard threw for her city earlier this month, despite being cut off from state funding due to financial mismanagement. The event cost approximately $50,000 in taxpayer money for presentations and another $35,000 for activities, equipment and staff.
In August, the Illinois State Comptroller suspended funding to Dolton after Henyard failed to file financial reports explaining the use of approximately $135,000. Comptroller Susana Mendoza has since threatened to fine the city $78,600 if the reports are not provided.
Henyard, who refers to herself as the ‘Super Mayor’ and is seeking re-election, is also under federal investigation after subpoenas issued earlier this year to Dolton, Thornton Township and people connected to her, according to reports.
Despite these mounting accusations, Henyard continues to deny any wrongdoing.
