Dolly Parton doesn’t see herself coming downstage anytime soon, or really ever.
The country music icon said during a recent interview on the Greatest Hits Radio show that she has no retirement plans in her future because “she’s not the type to sit around and do nothing.”
“I would never retire. I hope to drop dead in the middle of a song on stage one day. Hopefully one I’ve written. But that’s how I hope to go,” joked Parton, 77. “Of course, we don’t have much choice in that. But as long as I can work, as long as my health is good and my husband is well. I mean, the only way I would slow down or stop would be for that reason. But in the meantime, I’m going to make hay while the sun shines.”
From their debut album hello I’m doll In 1967, Parton became a music legend, releasing a total of 65 studio albums to date.
Earlier, during the interview with host Ken Bruce, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer explained that since he’s been lucky enough to have so many dreams come true throughout his music career, he wants to make sure he doesn’t let let nothing go to waste.
“I have always believed that if you have wanted your dreams to come true and you are lucky enough for that to happen, then you have to be responsible because you have to keep the dream alive,” said the Jolene said the singer. “And each dream generates another dream. You can branch out of just about anything that happens and make a business out of that too. It is like a tree with good roots: it has many branches and also many leaves. So why not make the most of it?”
The Grammy-winning singer is also set to make another dream come true with the upcoming release of her first rock album.
In May, Parton announced that her album Rock starwhich will be released on November 17, will feature collaborations by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Stevie Nicks, Lizzo and Miley Cyrus.
“I’m so excited to finally release my first Rock and Roll album, Rockstar!” she said in a statement at the time. “I feel so honored and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time and being able to sing all of the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure. I hope everyone enjoys the album as much as I enjoyed putting it together!”
