A dog who was rescued by a Pennsylvania family after Hurricane Helene saved their lives just two weeks later.
Rusty got a new lease on life after surviving Hurricane Helene when the Bannon family decided to adopt him among the hundreds of lost dogs they were trying to find new homes for in the wake of the devastation.
Little did the Bannon family know that Rusty would return the favor when, just two weeks later, he alerted Gabby Bannon, 29, to a growing fire in her kitchen in Eddystone.
“It’s almost like he was meant to come into our lives and be there to save us,” she said. fox 29.

Two weeks after joining the family, the 3-year-old pup alerted Gabby Bannon, 29, to a growing fire in her kitchen.

“I had been watching the news coverage and I saw the devastation of what was happening and I said I really want to help,” Gabby said.

The couple traveled alongside LaMancha Animal Rescue to deliver pet food and other essential items to the hardest-hit areas following the deadly storm.
Three flatbeds, trucks and trailers full of supplies were transported to the Canton Livestock Center.
The next day, they went to the local Humane Society to round up 35 dogs from the shelter and take them back to Pennsylvania to find families for them.
But a certain three-year-old puppy immediately stole their hearts.

He was such a perfect dog that the couple thought he belonged to a family displaced during the natural disaster.
“I took him out of his cage and there was something special about him,” Bannon said. ‘From there it was game over. He will definitely come home to us.

He knew something was wrong when Rusty began jumping and relentlessly pulling on his sleeve without showing any signs of stopping.
“When I opened the door to my room, smoke filled the hallway,” he said.

“I don’t like to think about what that would have been like,” he added. “We could have possibly been trapped upstairs.”
She said she will always be grateful to her rescue pup who ultimately ended up rescuing them.
