An animal lover died after running into a burning house to rescue her nine dogs.
Michelle Mirasol, 36, and her family fled the one-story property when flames erupted in Bacolod Province, Philippines, on May 21.
She picked up three dogs and left them in the yard. But then she rushed back in to rescue six puppies that were in a cage next to the bathroom.
Tragically, Mrs. Mirasol was overwhelmed by the thick smoke and collapsed in the building as the flames engulfed her.

Five of the puppies died with Ms. Mirasol, but firefighters were able to save one of the animals.

He said she could save three puppies before going back to take the others that were still in the cage when the fire broke out.
Plotena said Ms. Mirasol’s body was found in the bathroom covered with a wet towel that she used to cover her face from the smoke.

The fire brigade reminded residents that no one was allowed back into a burning building.
“Protect yourself, you only have one life,” he said.
Investigators said Ms. Mirasol was with her child and her parents when the fire started at around 6:17 PM. They all ran outside, but Mrs. Mirasol returned to the building for the dogs.

“They are family to people like Michelle. And family means no one is left behind. You will be remembered forever as a selfless fur mother.
“This is so heartbreaking. Our sincere condolences to the next of kin. But your respect goes out to Michelle. You were with your furbabies until the end. ‘
