After nearly 20 years, Dodgeball: A True Underdog will get a sequel, with Vince Vaughn returning to star and possibly producer.
where revealed Deadline On this news, a source close to the production has confirmed to IGN that Vaughn is working on the project. According to Deadline’s report, the film is in early production and the script will be written by Jordan Vandina, who previously worked on projects like Hulu’s The Binge.
The original 2004 movie was written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, but it’s still unclear if he’ll return to direct the sequel. Currently, Vaughn is the only actor confirmed to reprise his role. In addition to Vaughn, the original film included Ben Stiller, Justin Long and Christine Taylor. The only known plot detail of the upcoming Dodgeball sequel is that it will be completed after Joe wins a dodgeball tournament.
It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the first time reports of a Dodgeball sequel have been made. Last November, Justin Long said Ben Stiller’s approval was the only thing standing in the way of a sequel. In an interview, he said, “I hope eventually the movie will happen… But Ben told me he was a little nervous about making a sequel to a much-loved movie, something that people enjoyed a lot.”
