Doctors have provided an update on Edoardo Bove’s health after the Fiorentina player collapsed during their match against Inter Milan on Sunday.
Midfielder Bove collapsed and was taken off the field in an ambulance during the Serie A match against Milan at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Bove, 22, went down unharmed in the 16th minute and referee Daniele Doveri stopped play to allow him to receive treatment.
Players and staff had formed a wall around Bove while medical staff tended to him. Several players from both sides were seen crying in heartbreaking scenes.
The match was quickly suspended and the players returned to their locker rooms while Bove was transported out of the stadium and taken to hospital.
Fiorentina issued a statement detailing that Bove is “currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalized in intensive care.”

Bove is on loan at Fiorentina from Roma and has made 14 appearances to date. He scored his first goal for his current club against his parent team in October.
An Italian international, Bove has played for his country at all age groups up to under-21, but is yet to receive a call-up to the senior team.
