Minnesota congressman and co-chairman of the Democratic National Convention, Keith Ellison, is accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend, who alleges he dragged her out of a bed at his feet, and says there is a video of the incident.

He denies the accusations leveled against him Saturday night, and is currently running for the Democratic post for the state's Attorney General, whose vote is Tuesday.

The explosive claims came to light after Karen Monahan's former son, Austin, published a viral Facebook comment on the matter, in which he claims to have seen the tape in question, in which Ellison takes his mother out of the bed while screaming obscenities at her.

The son, Austin Aslim Monahan, took Facebook to the long post, which read: "In mid-2017, I was using my mother's computer trying to download something and I clicked on a file, I found over 100 text messages and twitters and video of almost 2 minutes long that showed Keith Ellison dragging my mom out of bed, screaming and calling her "f ****** b *****" and telling her to get the f * ** out of your house.

"The messages I found mixed with him constantly telling my mother that he wanted her back, he missed her, he knew that he was fucked up and we wished we could do things differently, he would embarrass her, intimidate her and threaten her if She went public, I sent her a text message and I told her I know what you did to my mother and some other things.

Monahan, who is A political organizer from Minneapolis said on Twitter that what his son published was "true."

"What my son said is true. Each statement he made was true. @keithellison, you know you did that to me. I have given every opportunity to get help and heal. Even now, he's willing to say that my son is lying and that he continues to leak more text and information for others to believe him. "

Ellison denied the accusation of physical abuse. A spokesman for his campaign also denied that the congressman sent threatening text messages.

"Karen and I were in a long-term relationship that ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for his well-being," Ellison said in a statement. "This video does not exist because I've never behaved in this way, and any characterization is false."

Minnesota Public Radio News reported Sunday that it reviewed more than 100 text messages and Twitter between Ellison and Monahan that showed the two communicated during the months after their separation, including coordinating to get their things from home.

MPR said that the tenor was sometimes friendly, sometimes combative. MPR said in a message, Monahan told Ellison that he planned to write about his "trip" and Ellison warned him not to do it, calling it "horrible attack on my privacy, unreal".

MPR said there was no evidence in the messages it reviewed of alleged physical abuse.

Ellison, who is divorced, is a six-term congressman and a leader within the Democratic Party.

He became vice president of the Democratic National Committee last year after falling short of the best position. He announced that this summer he would leave Congress after six terms representing the Minneapolis area and apply for the general office of the state attorney general.

With a great advantage of fundraising and star power over his opponents, including the visit of Vermont Senator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, Ellison was considered the favorite for Tuesday's primaries.

The Democratic opponents of Ellison threw themselves on the accusations.

State Rep. Debra Hilstrom circulated the initial Facebook post on Saturday night, calling the accusations "troubling." Tom Foley, a former county attorney, asked that any video or message be delivered to the police for an "immediate investigation."
