Disturbing surveillance video shows a 13-year-old girl dragging a trash can down her driveway moments before she was shot in the neck.
Police arrived at the scene and found the teenager by the front door bleeding from a gunshot wound, allegedly inflicted by her own mother.
When police asked what had happened, they said the daughter, still loyal, tried to cover up for her mother by telling them that a homeless person had shot her.
The shooting took place at the family home on Monday, near the Seat Pleasant Police Department in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
The teen’s mother, Talecka Brown, 32, who goes by Talecka Crystal on Facebook, was immediately arrested for attempted first-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The teen’s mother, Talecka Brown, 32, allegedly shot her 13-year-old daughter in the neck after an argument Monday afternoon.
Even though the girl said a homeless person had shot her after breaking in, police dismissed the story, at which point the girl told authorities that her mother had ordered her to outright lie to police.
Officers looked at surveillance footage and discovered that no one else had entered or left the home between the time the girl walked home from school, picked up the trash can from the sidewalk, entered the home and was shot. .
The girl said she and her mother had been arguing when the situation suddenly became physical.
Just as the teen was walking down the stairs, she told police how she saw her mother holding a gun which she then fired, sending her hurtling down the stairs.
Police say the teen was the last person to enter the family home before the shooting and that no other party was involved other than the girl’s mother.
Brown, who goes by Talecka Crystal on Facebook, has posted several photos online with herself and her daughter.
Police rushed to the scene Monday after the shooting at the home.
Police searched the home and found a loaded black Glock pistol.
Charging documents say investigators could also smell the odor of an unloaded firearm inside the home.
They also show how Brown couldn’t even get her own story straight as she gave conflicting statements during a police interview before finally admitting that she was the only one home with her daughter at the time of the shooting.
When Brown was asked if there was a gun in the home, she explained that there was one in the safe but it was unregistered and did not belong to her.
“It is always tragic when we have acts of violence within our community, but heartbreaking when the perpetrator is supposed to be your protector,” Seat Pleasant’s interim police chief said in a statement.
The girl, seen on the left, is now recovering from her injuries in intensive care, but will likely need further surgery as her condition stabilizes and improves.
Brown made a phone call from prison to the teen’s father, but didn’t even care to ask how his daughter was doing after the shooting.
“While no one thinks a mother would shoot her own daughter, no one can conceive, these incidents do happen,” added Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.
“We know it will take some time for you to recover from your physical injuries, but your emotional injuries can last a lifetime.”said Brave Boy.
“It’s disheartening that so much of this is happening today,” neighbor Tina Niblack told fox 5.
“Domestic violence in any form, even within your own home, is still domestic violence.”
The girl is now recovering from her injuries in intensive care, but will likely need further surgery as her condition stabilizes and improves. Doctors are glad he can still walk considering where the bullet hit.
The charges state that the victim specifically suffered a “unique defect to the back of his neck in the ‘C-Spine’ region, where a bullet fragment was observed in the shoulder area and another portion was lodged near his abdomen.” .
Earlier in the day, Brown, who is now in custody, had posted a positive and encouraging message on Facebook.
As of Monday night, Brown was in custody and denied bail as he was arrested for attempted first-degree murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison.

A friend commented: “I’m glad you had a great day. Good things come to those who wait, I love you all.”
During a court appearance, prosecutors heard how Brown had left a voicemail on the father’s phone attempting to influence his daughter.
Brown said the case would “disappear” if his daughter didn’t show up to court, reports NBC News.
According to the victim’s father, Brown didn’t even want to ask how his daughter was doing.
‘Attempted first degree murder? Come on, you know this isn’t me,” Brown also said in the voicemail, according to prosecutors.
‘It’s her mother, she’s going to listen to her mother. That’s our concern,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Sowls. “We don’t want the pressure to taint it in any way.”
Brown has not yet entered a plea, but is due back in court on October 25.
