The final moments of a 17-year-old girl before she disappeared have been revealed in disturbing surveillance footage.

Penelope Wise was walking down a street near the Corner Bar in Rockford, Michigan, around midnight on June 1 when she was caught on video.

The young man, who suffers from mental health issues, was wearing a pink T-shirt, denim shorts and at one point appeared to look directly into the camera.

Wise has been missing from her Cedar Springs home since May 31. Security footage released by Kent County deputies shows her walking along Rockford Park Drive, about five miles from her home, later that night.

In the fifth week of the case, Kent County Undersheriff Bryan Muir is turning to the local community for help in the search for Wise.

“We have over 750 people in the sheriff’s office, but obviously, just here in Kent County, we have 680,000 people that can be our eyes and ears in a case like this,” Muir told WZZM13.

“If we look beyond the Kent County area and into the local region, we believe there are more people who may have information than our resources can find.”

“We still have no information on where Penny is and we wanted to make sure the community knows we are still searching for her on a daily basis,” Muir said.

“We’re working with our local and federal law enforcement partners, trying to use whatever technology or equipment we have to locate her, but we really need the community’s help right now.”

The undersheriff said the community can help by checking their personal security cameras for images of Wise, even those who live outside of Rockford.

“Even though it may seem like a small or insignificant piece of information or you think we already have that information, the smallest piece of information could lead to the investigation, to where Penny is right now,” Muir said.

“We’re exhausting our resources to search that last known area,” Muir said. “We think it’s possible that it’s further away than where we’re focusing our search at this point.”

Despite having a rule against phones, Wise’s parents discovered he had hidden one before he disappeared.

Her parents said Penelope had left home briefly before, but never for more than a few hours.

“Our top priority is her safety,” said Mishael Wise, Penelope’s mother. “We love and care deeply for her, and we just want her to get in touch with someone, anyone, to let us know she’s okay.”

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said they do not currently suspect any foul play and that the woman left on her own. However, as the days pass, Muir said she has become increasingly concerned.

“We’re going to work on this case like it’s the newest case. We’re going to put resources into it and we’re not going to take them away until we can determine Penny’s status,” Muir said.
