A crime scene has been established after a suspected drugs laboratory exploded overnight.

NSW police and firefighters rushed to a Chester Hill property at 1.15am on Wednesday when residents on Curtis Road heard an explosion at the back of the house.

There was no fire to put out upon arrival, but rather a strong smell of acetone and the remains of an underground drug laboratory.

A hazmat team has been dispatched.

Police cordoned off a property on Curtis Road in Chester Hill after locating a hidden drugs laboratory.

As reported by Channel 9, police suspect that a resident may have been injured in the explosion and has since fled the scene.

“Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command, with the assistance of NSW Fire & Rescue, located a clandestine drugs laboratory,” read a police statement.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
