A mother whose son was killed in a drunk driving car accident has slammed the driver responsible as she was sentenced to just 179 days in jail for the murder.

Keisha Reid, mother of 24-year-old Jay Quan Reed of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, has called out the devastating actions of Katya Haynes that led to her fatal car crash in August 2022.

Haynes pleaded guilty to being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, however the perceived reduced sentence was widely criticized.

When the judge sentenced the drunk driver this week, Haynes had already been released and released on time. She has been in jail since last summer’s accident and has spent 179 days behind bars.

Prosecutors failed to prove that Hines’ weakness ultimately caused the breakdown.

Hines collided with two parked cars in North Charlotte which resulted in the death of Jay’quan Reid. He was partially thrown from the vehicle during the accident.

In court, Keisha Reid tearfully expresses her devastation and inability to forgive Haynes as she recounts how the accident affected their family’s lives.

She told how she had not been able to sleep properly since the night of the accident.
