Kierna Tierney was stretchered off against Switzerland and will miss the game against Hungary

A devastated Kieran Tierney held his face and was comforted by Andy Robertson as he was stretchered off during Scotland’s clash against Switzerland.

The Arsenal defender suffered what appeared to be a serious blow to his leg while competing for the ball with Dan Ndoye in the second half of the Euro 2024 clash.

He will miss the crucial final group match against Hungary, manager Steve Clarke has confirmed.

Scotland’s doctors rushed to treat Tierney and took him off with the match at 1-1, which ended.

Tierney was later photographed again standing but covering his face with his shirt in the tunnel.

Tierney, who suffered three separate injuries last season on loan at Real Sociedad, has seen his career blighted by a litany of setbacks.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke said: “Yeah, he’s definitely out.” He looks very bad. Obviously it has to be assessed but Kieran will not be in the next game.

‘You have to feel for Kieran. He is in very good shape and he is a great player for us. He does it very well.

“It’s a shame, but someone else has to step in and step up.”

David Moyes told BBC Sport: “He is hugely key to the way we play.”

Scotland have kept their hopes of reaching the round of 16 of Euro 2024 alive with this draw.

Scott McTominay sent the royal blue fans wild when his 13th-minute shot deflected off Fabian Schar and crashed into Yann Sommer.

It took a moment of brilliance from Xherdan Shaqiri to equalise, with the former Liverpool player curling a superb first-time effort into the top corner after 26 minutes.

Both teams had their chances and Switzerland had goals from Dan Ndoye and Breel Donald Embolo disallowed in both halves.

Scotland will have a good chance of advancing if they beat Hungary in their final group match.

Anything less and they could be home in the group stage at the twelfth time of asking.
