A Adelaide mother of four has been imprisoned for nearly six years for causing the death of a truck driver while driving in a stolen car rich in drugs.
Sophie Brine, 27, avoided the police and drove while being disqualified when she bumped into the back of the truck and then fled the scene in January last year.
Judge Joanne Tracey told the court that the truck was turning and bumping into a tree and killing Jatinder Singh Brar.
As a young person, Brine was disqualified to drive after being convicted of the death of her best friend’s step sister in December 2011.
The court heard the deceased insist that she should ride on the hood of a vehicle and encouraged Brine to drive.
“What is particularly disturbing is that you have taken little account of the ten-year denial of the license that the judge of the judgment has described as a very important punishment,” Judge Tracey at Monda said.
“What is more disturbing is that you have been accused of driving a car that is permitted on September 9 and 20 in 2018.”
Judge Tracey told the court that Brine had a dysfunctional family with an abusive, alcoholic father.
She had four children for a man who was described as violent and they were all removed from her care.

“You say your life fell apart after losing her children went into self-destruction mode and started to drug us.”
“If you have any hope of developing a healthy personal identity … you must take responsibility for your own mental and psychological functioning and you must make better decisions in life.”
Pekel was sentenced to six years and 11 months behind bars with a non-conditional release of five years and seven months.
