Disney+ Korean drama ‘Red Swan’ starring Kim Ha-neul and Rain

Disney+’s next high-profile Korean drama, romantic revenge series Red Swanplays Kim Ha-neul (The dignity of a gentleman, In the air) and Jeong Jihun, aka Rain (Ghost Doctor, Ninja killer).

The series follows Oh Wansoo (Kim), a woman born into an impoverished family who turned her life around by becoming a world-class golfer — which caught the attention of many, including her future husband, Hwain Group heir Kim Yongguk — You are too much, Soon I will). Struggling to pay off her mother’s debt, Wansoo agreed to marry Yongguk, but soon became unhappy after discovering her husband’s infidelity. For over a decade she’s stayed with her husband, determined to make it work, but things start to change quickly on the biggest night of her life. Shortly after arriving in Manila for her debut as a Goodwill Ambassador, Wansoo is caught in the middle of a hail of gunfire and narrowly escapes thanks to the heroic actions of the company’s bodyguard, Seo Doyoon (Jeong). Soon after, Wansoo begins to develop feelings for Doyoon and rethinks her whole life until that night – but she doesn’t know what Doyoon’s real motivation is for working for the Hwain Group.

Red Swan was written by Choi Yoonjung (Any love, Three sisters) and directed by Park Hongkyun (A Korean Odyssey, Warm and cosy). Disney has not yet announced a delivery date for the series, but it is scheduled to launch in 2023.

Disney+ has continued to ramp up its K-drama output since the launch of its direct-to-consumer streaming service in the country in 2021. Other popular K-drama originals from the House of Mouse to date include Big betstarring Choi Minsik (Old boy) as a serial entrepreneur who repeatedly crosses the border to support his burgeoning casino business; Big mouth, about a lawyer who is arrested as part of the murder case he is investigating; And Connecta horror thriller drama set in Seoul and directed by Japanese author Takashi Miike.
