Disney & # 39; s ambitious Star Wars land, Galaxy & # 39; s Edge, open to visitors at the Disneyland Park in California in May. But when it did, it opened with just one big drive: Smugglers Run, where you can drive the iconic Millennium Falcon. Now the company has announced when the next major attraction, Rise of the Resistance, is opened: December 5 at the Disney World Resort in Florida and January 17, 2020 at Disneyland.
This time the park in Florida gets the flagship as the first ride. The Disney & # 39; s Edge version of Galaxy & # 39; s Edge will not open until August 29 and when it does, it will include Smugglers Run. Four months later it will be the first park to receive Rise of the Resistance. When it was first announced, Galaxy & # 39; s Edge promised that the two major attractions would come to both theme parks, but we didn't have a timeline yet.
Rise of the Resistance is described as an immersive experience that puts park-goers at the center of a battle between the resistance fighters and the forces of the First Order. In the release, Disney says the attraction "blurs the boundaries between fantasy and reality" and that park guests are recruited by Rey and General Organa. "Along the way they will be captured by a First Order Star Destroyer. With the help of some heroes of the Resistance, they break out and must escape from the Star Destroyer, protect the secret base and stay one step ahead of Kylo Ren," the blog post reads from Disney.
It is not difficult to imagine why the company may have spread the releases of each attraction. Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Iger described Rise of the Resistance as the & # 39; most technologically advanced and immersive attraction we have ever come up with. & # 39;
