Dismembered Body of 30-Year-Old Michigan Woman Discovered at Friend's Home After Brutal Murder

Police uncovered a horrific crime in Michigan after discovering an amputated torso under a tarp in a Grand Rapids home. Jared Chance, 30, brutally murdered and dismembered his lifelong friend, Ashley Young, 31, in 2018. Chance was sentenced to up to 200 years in prison, without the possibility of parole, for his heinous actions.

“This is without a doubt the worst case I have ever been involved in,” Judge Mark Trusock said during sentencing. “What you did and what I saw in photographs was reprehensible and atrocious. You are clearly a monster without any conscience.”

Ashley, described as a kind and caring young woman, met Jared when she was 26 years old. Despite his troubled past, including substance abuse and violent outbursts, she gave him the opportunity to form a friendship. However, their relationship soured after Jared broke into their apartment and stole valuables. Law and Crime reported.

In November 2018, Ashley met up with Jared for drinks at local bars. The next morning, he was unable to meet with his mother, Kristine Young, to sign the lease for a new apartment. Concerned, Kristine called Jared and left him a voicemail: “Hi Jared, my name is Kristine Young, I’m looking for my daughter.

She was with you for the last time. Is she with you? Jared initially stated Ashley was with her ex-boyfriend and sent Kristine on a wild goose chase with false leads. Four days later, Kristine visited Jared’s apartment, where she discovered disturbing evidence, including a bloody sword.

A neighbor, Mario Nelson, reported a foul odor in the basement, where police later found a torso with no arms, legs or head. Investigators discovered ammonia, gloves, women’s boots and other items related to Ashley’s dismemberment in Jared’s apartment.

They also found plastic bags containing female members. DNA testing confirmed they belonged to Ashley. Despite these discoveries, Jared has refused to reveal the location of the rest of his remains. Jared’s parents, who initially tried to help him cover up the crime, were later charged as accessories. His brother, Conrad, forced Jared to confess after catching him burning evidence.

During the trial, Kristine gave a heartbreaking statement: “Ashley, I miss you every moment of every day… God gave me that gift; “You had no right to take it away from me.” The family has since launched a fund to gather information about Ashley’s remains, hoping to “give our sweet Ashley the rest she deserves.”
