A disgusting chant was launched against members and supporters of the Jewish community during an anti-Semitism demonstration.
Grassroots group Lions of Zion organized a rally in the Melbourne CBD on Sunday against a wave of anti-Semitic attacks in major cities, including a synagogue in Sydney that was vandalized with a large red swastika and the words “Hitler on top”.
At the same time, a procession of pro-Palestinian protesters paraded through the CBD from the State Library of Victoria.
Footage showed the moment the two groups clashed and the pro-Palestinian group was heard shouting: “Go back to Germany.”
Victoria Police officers lined the streets of the CBD as the pro-Palestine demonstration moved forward and managed to keep them separated from Israel supporters.
Several commentators questioned why police did not charge those shouting “go back to Germany.”
“Why don’t they arrest them for disorderly conduct and inciting violence?” one wrote.
‘Shit is getting too real now. “I’m done with this,” said another.
Pro-Palestinian protesters clashed with anti-Semitism protesters in Melbourne on Sunday.
Large gatherings in support of Palestine or Israel have become common in large cities since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, sparked by Hamas’ attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The death toll from the conflict is understood to have exceeded 45,000 and the majority of victims are Palestinian civilians.
However, Jewish Association of Australia chief executive Robert Gregory said rising violence against Jewish communities has limited their ability to take part in protests.
“The streets of Melbourne’s CBD have been abandoned in the hands of a mob of anti-Israel activists for over a year,” he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘Many Jews no longer feel comfortable venturing into the CBD while these protests are taking place.
‘Today, a small group of Jews, organized by the newly formed grassroots group, Lions of Zion, decided to demonstrate that the Melbourne CBD will not be closed to Jews.
Gregory added that Australians in general should take verbal attacks more seriously.
“Everyone should condemn the ugly verbal abuse directed at the Jewish people,” he said.

Police are investigating allegations that pro-Palestinian protesters told Lions of Zion to “go back to Germany”
‘The racist taunts of “go back to Germany” are aimed at reminding the Jewish people of the Holocaust carried out by Germany and intimidating the Jewish community.
“It’s time for the Victorian government to take back the streets of Melbourne’s CBD from extremists.”
Victoria Police urged anyone with information about those responsible for the racist attack to come forward.
“Victoria Police had a visible presence at a protest in the CBD to ensure public safety,” he said in a statement.
‘We are aware that a small group of people were shouting anti-Semitic insults at the demonstration.
‘Victoria Police will now make an assessment of those statements to determine whether an investigation will be launched.
“Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”
