A New Jersey elementary school teacher accused of having a baby with a 13-year-old boy made her first court appearance nonchalantly Thursday.
Laura Caron, 34, a fifth-grade teacher, was photographed wearing an orange prison jumpsuit while facing charges of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was denied bail.
Caron met the alleged victim when she was teaching him and his brother at Middle Township Elementary School #2, according to police.
Authorities say their baby was born when the victim was 13 years old and Caron was 28, in 2019.
According to investigators, the alleged assault came to light in December 2024 when the victim’s father made a post on social media about the boy who looked a lot like him and his son.
The victim’s parents said the family became friends with Caron over the years and soon allowed their two sons, as well as their daughter, to live with her one or two nights a week.
But sometime in 2016, when the victim was 11, the trio moved full-time to their Cape May courthouse. The crimes allegedly began the same year and continued until 2020.
Laura Caron, 34, a fifth-grade teacher, was photographed wearing an orange prison jumpsuit as she faces accusations of having a baby with her 13-year-old former student.

The victim’s sister told officers that when her brother took a shower, the defendant would go into the bathroom and close the door.

Authorities claim their baby was born when the victim herself was 13 years old and Caron was 28 years old in 2019.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the victim’s sister, the group would initially sleep in a shared room on the second floor.
However, he soon began to notice that the victim would be in Caron’s bed the next morning.
He also reportedly told officers that when his brother took a shower, the defendant would go into the bathroom and close the door.
The victim’s other brother also told police that he had once seen the suspect sexually assault his brother.
The young man allegedly admitted to being the father of Caron’s 5-year-old son and asked for it to be kept secret in text messages to his sister, according to 6ABC.
During a police interrogation, he allegedly confirmed that he had a sexual relationship with Caron and that the child was his.
Caron is being held at the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
